Biking in the Alps is not just for the grown-ups! Each of our beautiful alpine resorts offers some great family trail riding along the valley floor, taking in beautiful scenery and a network of tracks and trails which are ideal for little riders. You can even use the lifts to ride some family trails at altitude, which makes for a perfect day out for ages 5+.
Young-and-aspiring bikers will also be able to ’have a go’ on obstacle courses and mini bike parks - which are great for kids and novice adult riders. Here, you’ll get to understand some basic skills and bike handling before riding around the wider area.
Families love the bike facilities on offer in resort and everyone makes good use of our free bike hire. Coupled with the warm weather, the network of graded family trails encourages young riders to learn quickly; and the best bit is the ski lifts (which are specially adapted for bikes in summer) make covering lots of mileage easy to do.
Everyone loves riding the lifts to get to the top. The views are sensational and you can watch the world below as you rest your legs on the way back up to the top. Take a packed lunch, or try the mountain restaurants and stop at the lake to spice up your ride.
Morzine and Les Gets are two great resorts for families. Kids as young as 5 can use the lifts and enjoy a handful of epic rides at altitude when accompanied by an adult. A memorable experience they won’t forget in a long time We like the family ride using the Zores lift: Make sure you stop at the Goat Village (a village of goats) for coffee and ice cream and then at the lake (for lunch) on your way down the mountain, back to the hotel. A great day out and you’ll all be buzzing for ages!
It’s also a great idea to book a guide for a half or full day. We’ll hook you up with a professional guide or instructor which can be arranged on arrival by your Alpine Elements rep for a supplement. This will get you and your kids started by introducing you to the lifts and trails so you’ll be able to ‘go it alone’ and ride some amazing terrain, (at altitude), for the rest of the week.
Tignes and Val d'Isere have a free bikers’ lift pass (great news!) but there are fewer family rides using the lifts than you have in Morzine and Les Gets. There’s still a few family trails up the Pallafour chairlift (for families) and lots of great valley floor, woodland and lakeside trails - so families will have plenty to get stuck into!
All of our alpine hotels (and chalets) are totally geared for families. Each one is a hub of activity and fully stocked with mountain sports equipment which is free for you to use. Our exclusive hotels have inhouse Kids Clubs (4-12yrs) and evening entertainments with our very own Active Reps on hand to ensure families are making the most of our alpine surroundings.
