The buzz of the take-off, the rush of the wind, the silence, and the immense space around you! Pinpoint the landing site and watch it grow as you descend to terra firma once again.
Parapenting is one of our most popular ‘add-on activities’. Flights are accompanied by an instructor and tailored to you, so it can be a sedate and calming flight or a more exhilarating experience with basic aerobatics like stalls and spins, if you choose.
Parapenting is a truly awesome experience and suits all tastes and ages 5+. There is no special skill or fitness required, just a curiosity for being exhilarated by natural flight.
Parapenters’ love the sensation of taking off and then gliding high above the valley floor. If you choose, the instructor may perform basic acrobatics to liven the sensation!
You will be taken up to a start point by minibus with the flight school, and your instructor will then prepare the wing for take-off. You and your Pilot will start by slowly running along a meadow for take-off, which has a relatively gentle descent into the valley below to get airborne.
For the more adventurous passenger, your pilot may show you basic aerobatics like stalls and spins which are superb fun! All flights last for about 10 mins and you can pay a little extra to get an extended flight of around15 mins.
There are two meeting points: the morning flights leave from the funicular of Bourg Saint Maurice, and the afternoon flights leave from the landing field of Les Illettes (between Bourg Saint Maurice and Landry). Both require transport which we can help arrange or ideal if you are self-driving.
Parapenting in Tignes is a half day excursion and requires a drive but (compared to Morzine) is a longer experience. A 40 min flight might be too much for a 12 year old, but the 20 min flight is long enough.[
If you like the idea of learning to fly a Parapente yourself then why not try a 3-5 day (mornings only) beginner course. It will be the first step to getting a French federation certificate and flying parapente wings on your own
The first steps
The course runs from Monday to Friday (5 half days) in the morning only because the weather conditions are the best for learning.
The first 2 or 3 days take place on the "school slope" where we discover the basic maneuvers to prepare your wing, inflate, bring it over the head, then, how to drive the wing while jogging along, before landing the wing back on the ground to stop, all without taking off. Patience though ... It will come!
Over time, you will do some "Flea Jumps" - mini flights take offs for a few metres to a few tens of metres. Enough to discover the first real sensations of flight. The "school slope" is the most physical part of learning, the many curcuits are necessary to understand the rules of take off, fly and smooth landings within a safe environment.
First Flight
This happens at about 600 metres on Super Morzine, and you will take off solo with a radio to connect you to your instructor for advice and tips as you fly. Now, you are well on your way to becoming a solo parapenter.
