Rather like Coasteering, but way better! Canyoning is the art of hiking, climbing, or rappelling to the bottom of a river canyon - sliding down chutes, jumping into rock pools, abseiling down rock faces - with a team of other Alpine Elements guests to share the experience with.
Canyoning requires no special level of fitness. It’ll have you grinning from ear to ear as you jump into rock pools, slide down chutes and swim around impressive mountain features – all with an instructor and guide to show you how.
Canyoning is the art of swimming, climbing and rappelling to the bottom of a river canyon. You follow the water downwards: over drops into pools, down chutes, and through deep water. This involves jumping, scrambling, abseiling, sliding, climbing and swimming whilst a guide and instructor helps you do things you've never dreamt of! And it all takes place in the most impressive alpine rivers and waterfalls.
Canyoning is a fun and sociable group activity to enjoy with other Alpine Elements guests and is one of our most popular ‘add-on’ activities. In fact, it was our most popular ‘add-on activity’ for guests in 2024. Canyoning will compliment your free Active Pack and we even offer it as an inclusive option in our Adventure Upgrade, which includes upgraded rafting, a guided hike as well as a choice of Via ferrata or Canyoning, which is excellent value.
For Morzine guests: Many of our guests like to cycle or walk to the activity, as it follows a lovely route along the river and up to the Nyon carpark, by the waterfalls. In the car park is where the meeting point is located. It’s about a 45 min walk or a 30 min cycle following a track and a trail through the trees. Alternatively, you can use the local (free) buses which run from all of our chalets and hotels and straight to Nyon. Ask our Active reps for Nyon Waterfall Route Card
For Les Gets guests: simply take the free-bus into Morzine and walk up to the ‘Cascades’ waterfall following our Nyon Waterfall Route Card or change bus in Morzine to get to Nyon.
Top Tip: The mountain cafe at Cascades is a lovely spot for lunch.
