Rock Climbing

Climbing with an instructor as part of a sociable group is a lot of fun and, we can’t think of a better way to experience the mountains than climbing natural rock faces, in wild locations. You’ll be taught belaying and abseiling techniques, and start with climbs to suit your ability before progressing on to more difficult routes. No prior skills are required, beginner and beginner to expert climbs for adults and children age 7-8+ are accommodated in the same session so you can enjoy this activity as a family.

Top Tip: Climbing or Via Ferrata is included in our Adventure Pack upgrade*.

Climbing, Morzine

  • Included in our Adventure Pack upgrade*
  • Cost: €50 (adult & child)
  • 3-4 Hrs (half day +)
  • Beginner & expert climbers welcome
  • Age 5+ (accompanied by adult)
  • Run in groups of 8+
  • Rock boots, helmets, harnesses & equipment provided

Climbing is a strangely addictive sport and promotes excellent physical fitness. As a satisfying half-day excursion, it’s great fun to do with family and gives a very rounded and ‘real mountain’ experience.

*We can include Climbing in our Adventure Pack upgrade as an alternative to Canyoning or Via Ferrata if participant numbers allow.

Also try Via Ferrata

About the activity

Run by a specialist climbing school, your instructor and guide will teach you basic and advanced climbing techniques (depending on your level) and all abilities can climb together in the same excursion.

You will learn lots of techniques, such as lead climbing, rope work and belaying. Our instructors are very patient, inspirational and energetic - with a true love of their sport. As a rounded experience of the mountains, this one is hard to beat,

Getting there

The school will pick you up from your accommodation or a designated meeting place a short walk from where you are staying. It is a short 10 min drive by minibus from Morzine to St Jean d'Aulps where the activity takes place. We like to run the activity with other Alpine Elements guests which make for sociable groups of 8 to 10 people.

Climbing for families & children

Beginners and children aged 7+ can learn to climb on natural rock faces which offer an unforgettable experience in the wilds of nature, and always with a stunning backdrop. It is always a sociable event as we run groups with other Alpine Elements families. Younger children can also take their first steps into the world of climbing using artificial climbing walls, available in all resorts. They have soft mats and easy traverses which are free to use, or very low cost.

Climbing Walls

Climbing Walls offer a great place to start climbing or develop your skills. All resorts have an excellent selection of artificial walls with features specifically designed for all levels from outright beginners to the most extreme solo climbers and provide a fun and safe environment to try climbing.

Families and beginners find artificial walls a great place to get a taste of the real thing, and completing a route or traverse is very satisfying and quite addictive. There is often a small local cost to start climbing and you can rent sticky boots locally.
