Downhill Mountain Biking Lessons Tignes

For beginners & experienced riders

Downhill MTB is seriously addictive. This experience will have you hooked!

The Alps are famous for Downhill biking and everyone aspires to riding the lift-assisted trails on a Pro-bike. It’s an experience you will find hard to beat and often reserved for experienced riders only. Not anymore! We’ve teamed up with MTB experts Evo 2 to create a beginner lesson and an intermediate lesson so you can learn how to use these trails safely.

These lessons will not only give less confident riders the ability to use the lifts and high-altitude tails, but the instructor will also focus on expert riders (if you decide to join a lesson) and give you tips on technique. It’s a great way for adults to enjoy the activity with their children and get something out of it too!

Top Tip: Book a beginner lesson at the start of your week and you’ll have the confidence to ride the lift-assisted trails for the rest of the week, if you rent a Pro-bike.

DH MTB Lesson (Beginner)

  • 2 Hr course (Allow half a day)
  • Group size 5-6
  • Age 8+
  • Full suspension Pro bike, pads/helmet provided
  • €49 (kids & adults)
  • Free with our Active Pack

This gentle course is designed for adults and children aged 8+ who want to experience Downhill riding without actually going up the lifts. You’ll stay at the bottom of the resort and practice riding techniques with your instructor in safety. It suits beginners and more experienced riders as everyone needs to know how to use the lifts and trails; and your instructor will give you tips and techniques suited to your level as he watches you descend the track in front of the Evo 2 centre in the resort.

It is not only a must-do course for less confident riders, but also for seasoned riders - new to the Alps and lift system. It will prepare you for tackling the trails and lift system independently.

Beginner or expert - you will learn something from this course which is why it’s suitable for parents to do this course with their children.

You will meet at the Evo 2 shop in Tignes Le Lac (see getting there below). You will be fitted with pads, armour, a full-face helmet, gloves and your full suspension Pro-bike. Your qualified guide and instructor will teach you essential riding techniques before you take to the special practice course outside the Evo 2 shop which suits all levels of rider. You will cover braking, gears, and more advanced techniques of positioning, weight distribution etc. All the basic techniques to be able to use the lift-assisted Green trails and a few extra pointers for the better riders.

The practice course has small banks, humps and swooping sections of Singletrack to mimic the real mountain. This taster lesson will focus mainly on this course and once you have shown confidence on this course you may progress to the Intermediate Lesson and sample the high mountain Green trails using the lifts.

DH MTB Lesson (Intermediate)

  • 3 Hr course (Allow half a day)
  • Inter to Expert
  • Group size 5-6
  • Age 12-13+
  • Full suspension Pro bike, pads/helmet provided
  • €69 - Jnr (24” bikes)
  • €89 - Teen/Adult

See the Movie below

If you are a more confident trail rider, (but new to the Alps), or you have done the Beginner DH MTB lesson above, then this is the perfect follow-on lesson. It’s a 3 hour intensive lesson which starts at resort level before going up the lifts and onto the real mountain terrain.

It will start by fast tracking elements of the course above (by way of refresher) and after you’ve done a couple of ‘proving runs’ through the practice course at resort level, your instructor will take you to the Palafour chairlift and teach you how to use the lifts, including getting your bike on and off the lift using a practice module.

At the top of the lift on the mountain, several more advanced topics will be covered to use the Green trails like ‘Smoothie’, and later you may advance onto the Blue trails like ‘Jump Around’. Your instructor will give you tips as you descend - which is a thrilling ride for all levels as it winds its way from the top of the chairlift all the way back down to Tignes base level. You will be taught techniques such as weight distribution, positioning, trajectory and braking so you can enter banked corners with confidence and speed.

Two-day course (2 half days)

  • 2x Half days
  • Age 12-13+
  • Full suspension Pro bike, pads/helmet provided
  • €135 (Jnr 24” bikes)
  • €165 (teens/adults)

You can also book a two half day course to learn even more about this great sport. This course would be suitable as a complete starter course so it’s not essential to previously have done any of the lessons above.

Beginners will learn how to use the lifts, their bikes and equipment. Then, they will learn basic techniques and riding skills to become confident on Green trails and progression onto Blue trails. It’s a must-do course for aspiring riders who want to be able to use the high altitude DH trails independently, and in safety.

For those with prior experience, the course will be geared to your level and you want to learn tips from the pro’s like positioning and trajectory. Your guide and instructor will ensure you complete the course and enjoy every minute of it, getting lots out of it - whatever your level!
