We’ll help you get wet with a free-and-inclusive Whitewater rafting excursion in Morzine, Les Gets and Tignes. Nothing breaks the ice with your fellow hotel guests like heading down a river at high speed on an inflatable raft, right?
Top Tip: Upgrade your free rafting session to the Rodeo descent in our Adventure Pack
Included within our Free Active Pack, this family rafting adventure cruises down the rapids of the river Dranse. You will start with practical swim techniques in the river (which means getting in for a plunge!) before paddle techniques, how to sit in the raft and safety. The adventure includes a swimming session in the rapids or a stop-off to jump into rock pools.
It’s a fun adventure that needs teamwork as you forge new friendships with other Alpine’ guests. Rafting is a sociable day out and the alps are famous for their rapids, so this family adventure will have you sharing stories in the hotel bar afterwards!
Included as standard with our Adventure Pack upgrade, this is a full descent of the Dranse rapids, taking in more challenging sections and an exhilarating descent on the canoe-kayak world cup course. Sporting activities, including a jump from the rocks and immersion in the currents to spice up the adventure, perfect for thrill-seeking teens and adults.
Rafting is a half-day excursion and the actual session lasts for about 2.5 to 3 hours at the centre with a 1.25 hour descent time. It’s great for all ages (8 to 9+) who are confident swimmers and offers a thrilling day out as you receive onshore instruction in a beautiful setting and descend 6 kms of rapids with stops along the way for swimming and rock jumping.
Transport is included for the free rafting sessions included in our Active Packs, but you can drive there yourself if you have a car. It’s about 30 mins to the rafting centre.
Our coaches will pick up guests after breakfast (transport included) and younger children under 8, or not-so-confident at swimming, can join our specially extended breakfast Active Kids club so parents can go and have fun!
After a safety briefing and an introduction to the use of paddles, sitting in the boat and correct rafting techniques, you will head off to the rapids. Your raft will normally have 6 to 8 paddlers and an instructor at the back to help steer you down the rapids.
As your boat weaves its merry way down the rapids, it will spin you around, douse you with water and give you a jolly good reason to cling onto the person next to you. Each rafter has a paddle, (what you do with it, is another matter!), but the general idea is that you all paddle in the same direction as instructed by your guide!
During the ride, the raft will pull over for a pitstop and you will be offered the unmissable opportunity to hurl yourself off a rock and plunge into a deepwater pool. Or just sit by the side and watch everyone else do it.
As you’ve probably guessed, rafting is a lot of fun and is a social highpoint of the week - always enjoyed with other Alpine Elements guests. If your child is under 8, you can pop them into our specially extended Active Kids Club, so parents can have a blast safe in the knowledge that their little-uns’ are being looked after by our childcare leaders back at the hotel. Chalet guests can make use of Kids Club by dropping their kids off beforehand.
