What's the weather like?

The Alps in summer are sunny and warm. It’s easy to forget how far south they are. Quite far south of Paris in fact, and on a similar latitude to La Rochelle in south-west France. So it’s unsurprising they get their fair share of sunny weather, with Tignes and Val d'Isère boasting 300 days of sunshine a year. In between the sun you can get some rainy bits, which (as is common of the mountains) are relatively short-lived. So, be sure to pack your sunscreen, a light rain-mac and plenty of T-shirts!

Morzine & Les Gets weather to expect

  • Morzine avg 220 days sunshine a year
  • Average of 9.5 sun hours per day
  • June average: 19°C to 24°C.
  • July is typically the warmest month: 21°C to 27°C.
  • August: average: 21°C to 26°C.

At the far end of this beautiful Savoyard valley, Morzine sits next door to Les Gets and this alpine playground receives lots of sunshine for most of the summer. A popular time to visit for active folk  is June and early July when the weather is sunny (but not too warm) so you can be active from dawn till dusk.

July and August can range from 28 to 35 degrees C, but the mountain’s Foehn winds do help to cool you down, especially at altitude. Make sure you pack sunscreen and a rain mac because this area can occasionally bring freak rain showers due to the proximity of Lake Geneva. But they often last for a short period before bringing sunshine again.

Tignes Weather to Expect

  • Tignes avg 265 days sunshine a year
  • Cooler overall temperatures due to altitude
  • Average of 8.5 sun hours per day
  • June average: 17°C to 21°C.
  • July is typically the warmest month: 20°C to 25°C.
  • August: average: 19°C to 25°C

Tignes and Val’ are two neighbouring resorts in one of the most southern locations in the Alps and they boast 250 days of sunshine a year. Whilst the sun shines, the mountains here do not feel the heat so much as the altitude cools things off. But fear not, shorts and T-shirts are still the go-to apparel for most.

Make sure you pack extra sunscreen for this region, and a rain mac because you’ll occasionally get rain showers, which often last for a short period before bringing on the sunshine again.
